Dylan Guenther has been on a steady rise as one of the NHL's best young snipers. With a solid start to the 2026-27 season, could the Utah Mammoth winger already challenge for the goal-scoring title?

The cast of Stanley Cup contenders in the Western Conference remains pretty familiar, with the Colorado Avalanche , Dallas Stars , Minnesota Wild , Vegas Golden Knights , and Edmonton Oilers each thinking this could be their year to win it all. There are, however, a few up and coming teams that could potentially insert themselves in that company.
from TSN,
No one is asking him to try anything of the sort. The Mammoth made the playoffs with a young, fast, skilled core led by Cooley, Dylan Guenther and captain Clayton Keller , and Lee and fellow veteran forward Vincent Trocheck were added over the summer to bring a more direct, simple and straightforward brand of hockey from their careers in the Eastern Conference and complement what the established group already excels at.

The motto for the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday following a disheartening loss on Long Island was simple: don’t let anything spiral out of control. While the Devils showed some flashes of putting it together, they couldn’t for a full 60 minutes as sloppy defense was the theme in a 5-3 loss to the Utah Mammoth .

SALT LAKE CITY -- Some places will always stay with you after you leave them. For Vincent Trocheck , that describes New York after playing the past four seasons with the New York Rangers.
“It’s always tough whenever you’re in a place for a few years and you get used to the area," Trocheck, now a member of the Utah Mammoth, said Wednesday. "You fall in love with a place, which we obviously did. It’s tough to move on but that is part of the business. It happens. I’ve done it a couple of times in my career now.”

The Utah Mammoth had a solid 2025-26 season, making the playoffs and finishing fourth in the highly competitive Central Division. But the Central has only gotten tougher this summer, so we ask: will Utah keep climbing the Central ranks, or is disappointment ahead?

from Chicago Hockey Now,
Where to even begin? Tuesday’s season-opening 5-2 defeat to the Vegas Golden Knights was disappointing, but Thursday’s 6-0 shutout loss to the Utah Mammoth (1-0-0) was disheartening, and frankly flat-out embarrassing.
Two games into the 2026-27 campaign, the Chicago Blackhawks (0-2-0) look far, far removed from achieving their outset goal of becoming a Stanley Cup Playoff contender again. Their performance at the Delta Center was truly abysmal, and perhaps the franchise’s worst under head coach Jeff Blashill. It may have even been the worst game the Blackhawks have played since Kyle Davidson took over as general manager in March 2022. It was that bad.
from Chicago Hockey Now,
The Chicago Blackhawks (0-1-0) aim for their first win of the 2026-27 season when they take on the Utah Mammoth (0-0-0) at the Delta Center on Thursday. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. CT, with coverage on ESPN+, Hulu, and Disney+.

There’s no doubt these players are among the best in the game, but the size of the average annual value (AAV) in these deals is widening the eyes of both fans and executives. While Makar may be the first NHLer to eclipse a $20-million AAV, at this rate, he certainly won’t be the last.

The Stars want to keep Robertson, he wants to stay in Dallas, but they can’t agree on proper value. Robertson wants to play in Dallas for around $14 million per season, the Stars want him at closer to $12 or $12.5 million. … The Detroit Red Wings pulled off their Sebastian Cossa deal on Friday night, sending him to the Utah Mammoth for the No. 23 pick, which Detroit used to draft J.P. Hurlbert.
The Cossa saga is interesting, he always had the physical tools, but seemed to lack the mental makeup and demeanor that Detroit was looking for. The Red Wings essentially tried to tear him down and build him back up, and even after doing that they didn’t like the end product, especially compared to Trey Augustine.
Nothing new to report on the Dylan Larkin front, although it will be interesting today when Steve Yzerman addressed the media after Day 2 of the NHL Draft, which will be his first public comments since the trade reports surfaced two weeks ago.
