On Sunday, the New York Rangers signed goaltender James Reimer to a one-year contract. The deal will carry a pro-rated cap hit of $850,000 for the remainder of the 2026-27 season.
Reimer came to the Rangers organization earlier this month, signing a PTO with their American Hockey League affiliate , the Hartford Wolf Pack. The 38-year-old made his season debut on Friday night, pitching a 35-save shutout against the Boston Bruins’ top farm team, the Providence Bruins. As a result, Reimer became the oldest goaltender to not allow a goal in an AHL game since 2008.

The New York Rangers have signed the veteran goaltender to a one-year deal, the team announced on Sunday.
Reimer had signed a professional tryout agreement with the Rangers' AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack, 10 days ago. He made one appearance for Hartford, a 35-save shutout, to earn himself this NHL opportunity.

An obvious, and tantalizing, possibility is a blockbuster trade to acquire Connor Hellebuyck, who is sitting out after requesting a trade from the Winnipeg Jets . Hellebuyck and Shesterkin both have term on their contracts beyond this season, so it would mean either moving one in the summer or committing to the aggressive approach of rostering two of the most elite goalies in the sport, making it an unlikely scenario.
