Today we are combining the 20/20 from two games at the prospect tournament, where the Dallas Stars beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-1 and the Pittsburgh Penguins prospects beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-3.

1 . I’m going to open this 20/20 with some notes from a conversation with Stars general manager Jim Nill, who took time to chat with Robert Tiffin and I during the second intermission of the first game, since some of it seems news worthy.

The game might not have mattered, but we finally had some live NHL-affiliated hockey on Saturday when the Detroit Red Wings prospects and the Dallas Stars prospects played.

The Red Wings won 4-3, but more importantly we started to get some baseline readings on prospects for both organizations before training camp.

Stars, Jason Robertson avoid arbitration with one-year, $12M deal

Jason Robertson is returning to the Dallas Stars , at least for one more season.

The Stars and Robertson agreed to a one-year, $12 million contract on Tuesday to avoid arbitration.

The deal now walks Robertson to unrestricted free agency next summer, but he is eligible to sign an extension on Jan. 1.

The Stars and Robertson had been locked in a tricky negotiation and ultimately couldn't come to terms on a long-term deal.
