I think Larkin decided that shaking up the organ-EYE-zation in exchange for his captaincy was a fair exchange. It's good that players have a little more say in what goes on in the league today than in the past.
I would be all I have in my bank account and my retirement that Seider is the next captain.

if Debrincat signs long term, I expect him to be the captain and then Seider becomes one at the age of 32 or so.

The timing is certainly interesting. I feel like this would have been a bit more expected a few weeks ago. But here we are, months into the GM search, and while we're expecting a GM announcement, instead we're finally getting the statements we've been waiting for all summer.

That's a tough question. Does Edmonton compare better to Detroit under Babs or Toronto? They do not have the same proven veteran leadership that Detroit did and the culture to go with it. I'm curious to see how the Quinn Hughes thing is resolved, but it's looking more and more like the Wings were right in not giving up such a haul for a season and a half of Hughes.
That's a good point. I believe Kreider still had a 15-team no-trade list, so that may have complicated things. Agree it seems like it would have been a good deal, and they could have recouped some assets--got think Verbeek tried.
I wonder if they shopped him at all or if they assumed people wouldn't want his contract. Seems that with the cap having gone up, there should be teams where he would fit and make an impact.
