You wouldn’t have heard an overwhelming outpouring of optimism from Philadelphia Flyers fans at this time last year. Free agency additions Christian Dvorak and Daniel Vladar felt like band-aids for the team’s glaring weaknesses at center and between the pipes, respectively. Franchise great Rick Tocchet’s return as coach garnered a collective sigh from a fanbase whose patience with doing things “the Flyer way” was whittled down to a stump over the preceding 25 years.
