The 2025-26 season was supposed to be a bounceback campaign in which the New York Rangers proved that their crash-and-burn effort from 2024-25 that saw them go from winning the Presidents’ Trophy the year prior to out of the playoffs altogether was a fluke. They moved on from coach Peter Laviolette and hired two-time Stanley Cup champion Mike Sullivan to tighten up the schematics, and with J.T. Miller freshly named as captain and ready to spend a full season back on Broadway, things were looking up.
