The Montreal Canadiens are wasting no time locking up a cornerstone player.
The Canadiens and Ivan Demidov have agreed to an eight-year, $73 million contract extension.
The new deal will begin in 2027-28 after Demidov’s entry-level deal is completed.
Demidov, 20, was the runner-up for the Calder Trophy last season after scoring 19 goals and 62 points in 82 games. He added three goals and nine points in the playoffs as the Canadiens reached the Eastern Conference Final.
