Kings won’t sign Drew Doughty to extension this summer, GM says

The Drew Doughty era in Los Angeles could be nearing an end.

Speaking to reporters after the first round of the NHL Draft on Friday, Kings general manager Ken Holland said the team does not intend to sign defenceman Drew Doughty to an extension when he becomes eligible on July 1.

Doughty, 36, has one year remaining on his current deal and the Kings may revisit signing him next off-season before he reaches UFA status.

The London, Ont., native has spent his entire 18-year career in Southern California, wracking up 1,279 games with 165 goals and 709 points, along with a Norris Trophy in 2015-16.
