NEWARK — Special teams defined a choppy but entertaining Sunday as the New York Islanders and New Jersey Devils began the preseason at Prudential Center.

New York held a 12-6 edge in shots and spent 6:13 on the power play, yet finished 0 for 5 with the man advantage in the first period. The Devils were not awarded a power play.
