The question for the Minnesota Wild coming into the 2025-26 season was whether they signed Kirill Kaprizov for a then record-shattering deal to contend or to save face. Kaprizov is a rare franchise winger with gaudy 82-game averages of 48 goals and 98 points, and losing him to unrestricted free agency would’ve been unacceptable. Still, could the Wild really expect to win with $17 million in cap space dedicated to one player?
